Lavender, oatmeal and bumblebees

Those first weeks of settling into Waitati life. I remember the wonderful, quirky loveliness of Katie and Sas's place on Doctors Point Road.

Being surrounded by lavender. It was in full bloom when we arrived. Gwen and Emily would spend hours catching the bumblebees visiting the flowers, and keeping them as 'pets' in various leftover plastic containers. Happily freeing them while they were still healthy and flying well. Amazingly, all without a single sting.

What else from this settling in time?
The discovery of oatmeal! This became a breakfast favorite, great for chilly mornings in PJs.

Emily and Fin's bedroom, overlooking the field of lavender, and the bay.

Gorgeous summer views.

Extended twilights. Long, late sunlight evenings.
