Birthday David - Part 1

David's birthday got a little crunched this year (this seems to happen kind of a lot...). Feb 18 fell on the same weekend of the Waitati Music Festival, organized in large part by Katie and Sas, our hosts in the Doctors Point Road apartment. It was the one night of our whole stay that the apartment had been reserved for someone else (band members and their families). We almost were due to move into our 'permanent' Waitati house, but it was also booked for the music festival weekend. So after a slightly hasty peanut-butter-and-jelly 'cake', we cleaned the apartment, packed up all our possessions, emptied the fridge, and stowed everything at Sue and Steve's.

First stop - Blueskin Nursery for a birthday breakfast (a step up from the pb&j of the early morning).

Then to the Waitati Music Festival. Which turned out to be a pretty great way to spend a birthday.

 Face paint.

Lots and lots of music. (Here are our landlords to be - Sue,  with the colorful orange scarf, and Steve, center stage, with the hat and the guitar.)

Painting Penny's car! (I assumed that this would wash off, but it lasted the entire year we were in Waitati. A very serious paint job.)

And poetry. Which was surprisingly great.

 Kite building.

 Graffiti art.

And a magic show. Where David did not manage to escape becoming the audience volunteer.

And finally, the pacifist 'Waitati Militia'. Eccentric, wonderful Waitati!

We even ended up in the Otago Daily News :)
