Wonderful Welly

On the flight south, I had a long layover in Wellington. Which seemed frustrating when buying the tickets, but turned out to be great. We had raced through Wellington so quickly on our way south, we hadn't had a chance to explore it at all. I'm so glad I had a chance to see a bit more of it. I loved it!

First off, you're greeted in the airport terminal with the real giant eagles used in Lord of the Rings. AND the (not real) Gandalf! Wellington is home to the Weta Studios, where a lot of LOTR was created. Wellington is also near where Peter Jackson lives.

I took the city bus downtown, to see the famous Te Papa museum (which was wonderful! and free, like most of the museums I've seen in NZ).

Then a walk along the downtown waterfront.

And then the bus back to the airport, and my evening flight to Dunedin...
