Doctors Point Road

Like the rest of our NZ adventure so far, our housing in Waitati was not immediately seamless. The house that we finally arranged to rent for the year was not ready upon arrival, we had to find an interim place to live for the first 6 weeks. Luckily, our lovely landlords to be, British expats Sue and 'Poppa' Steve, had a daughter living two houses down the road, with an apartment we could rent meanwhile. And so we moved into Katie and Sas's house on Doctors Point Road. Their kids Emily and Finley became Gwen and Simon's fast friends.

Our apartment was the bottom left part of the building. Above us were Emily and Finley's bedrooms.

Pretty basic kitchen. No oven/stove, but a hot plate and a microwave, which for us worked for us just fine. And very importantly, a washing machine!

No drier, but hanging the clothes outside worked pretty well (we've discovered, this is the standard way in NZ, driers are unusual). We did have a few troubles with on and off rain - our clothes kept almost getting dry, then becoming soaked again. We gradually got much better at anticipating the weather, and rescuing the laundry.

Trampoline! Best feature of the house!

Porch swing for an afternoon beer.

Chips and hummus, 'wine', and crazy 8's. Home sweet home.
