Some openings

Panama has started relaxing restrictions....

Just last Friday (May 8) it was announced that the dry law (Ley Seca) was loosening. It is now permitted to buy one bottle of wine or one six pack of beer per person per shopping visit. And just today (May 13), we received the announcement that kids can finally leave the house! Only one at a time, only accompanied by their parent, and only during the day and hour that their parent is allowed out. Kids must wear masks and are still not allowed in supermarkets. During this specified hour they are only allowed near their home or in the social areas of their apartment building...

 

Repair shops, electronic shops, and fish markets are also opening (interesting combo!). Plumbers and electricians will be allowed to resume work.

Here's our data as of today (this worldwide tracking website is great: https://coronavirus.app/map). Our new cases (red bars above) aren't skyrocketing, but they are not diminishing either. Panama has 8783 total cases as of today, for a population of just over 4 million this is 2142 cases per million. 252 deaths in total, 61 deaths per million. Not terrible. But not fantastic either. I hope these openings aren't coming too soon.
